How much does appendix surgery cost in Saudi Arabia?

Indicative total range, 2026: 15,000 – 28,000 SAR

Usually one to two nights; longer if the appendix had perforated.

Appendicitis rarely gives you time to shop around — it is emergency surgery. The indicative range below is for laparoscopic appendectomy in a private Eastern Province hospital when the appendix is inflamed but intact. A perforated appendix changes everything: more antibiotics, a drain, a longer stay, occasionally intensive care, and the bill follows the complication, not the operation name. If cost is a worry while you are in pain, say so to the team early — what can be planned, will be planned with you openly.

What moves this figure

  • Intact vs perforated appendix — the dominant factor.
  • Length of stay and antibiotic course.
  • Imaging before surgery (CT) when the diagnosis is uncertain.
  • Intensive care, rarely, for severe infection.

What the range usually includes

The surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees, theatre and the planned stay, standard medicines, dressings and routine tests, and the first follow-up. It does not include intensive care, extra nights, or treatment of unrelated conditions — anything of that kind that becomes necessary is discussed with you as it arises, never discovered afterwards.

Questions patients ask us

What are the signs an appendix is about to burst — and how fast can it happen?

There is no safe waiting window with appendicitis. An inflamed appendix can perforate, and our appendectomy guide is blunt about what follows: abscess, peritonitis, and life-threatening sepsis. Pain that settles in the lower right abdomen and keeps worsening, fever, nausea or vomiting, and pain when you move or cough are reasons to be in an emergency department now — not tomorrow. That urgency is also why appendix surgery is priced as emergency care.

Can appendicitis be treated with antibiotics instead of surgery?

For some adults with mild, uncomplicated appendicitis, antibiotics alone can be an option — but about four in ten of those patients need the operation later anyway. Appendectomy remains the standard treatment, and it is always needed once the appendix is complicated or has perforated. Your surgeon will advise what is safest in your case.

Most Saudi insurers cover medically necessary surgery — gallstones with symptoms, hernia, appendicitis — after approval, with your co-payment set by your policy. Cosmetic and some bariatric indications are commonly excluded or need special approval. Send us your policy on WhatsApp before you book and we will tell you honestly what can be arranged. Self-pay patients receive the same written quotation; day-case timing, when safe, sits at the lower end of every range here.
